this spring there has been so many new pop-grups, so much promotion, so much of 'yeayea' hype in finland, that the average-selling bands are losing that bread and butter. there is only so much a country of 5mill can consume.. -to albums.

the ceo of spinefarm even appeared on the news of "nelonen", stating that its no good.

but.. isnt that the fashion of whatever growing industry?

i just saw an episode 'of viva la bam' on mtv. ville valo was there as a guest and.. oioi.. it was an agonizing show to watch - and i don't mean it in a good way. it seemed like ville was dragged there against his will - probably by his record company.

ville looked like he just wanted to get the shooting over with, somehow. he didnt show any interest in keeping up with the guys stupid jokes and as the episode went on ville had just one way to go through the day.. -he got drunk.

the last shots where all the guys lie on a bed were somewhat tragicomic, as drunken ville clearly shows relief: finally its over..

weirdly the band him has gained a reputation of extremely cool underdround band in america. beginning from jackass'es bam margeda celebrities like kelly osbourne and even jessica simpson have been wearing their t-shirts and praising their music. not forgetting to mention ville's piping hot looks.

what is the deal by the way that bam's production company took him's logo?..

anyway, id think that the appearence on mtv might have been a mistake for him's promotion. maybe it undressed some of the the mystical appeal of a northen european band, and showed ville to the americans as we see him; like any other guy.

one of the granfathers of the finnish metal-music is now in need of some help. serious help.

chaosbreed website announces about the loss of two members:

"taneli jarva and esa holopainen are no longer members of chaosbreed. declining to make the upcoming tour with grave they had agreed on and known about months in advance without a valid excuse is the main reason why they cannot continue in the band anymore"

after the "decline", the band now lacks a guitar player and a vocalist for the upcoming tour across europe, as well as to already booked recordings.

the new album of kotiteollisuus "7" reached 15 00 sold copies last week and at the same time their previous album "kuolleen kukan nimi" broke the same line, as well.

in finland, 15 000 sold copies earnes the title of "golden album".

kotiteollisuus represents the most honest finnish heavy-rock music, where skills of playing or singing really make no difference, its just the attitude that matters. i see the singer of the band jouni hynynen as the modern embassidor of "perkele-genre".

now hynynen - who was btw born "while his father was smoking a cigarette"*- has an extremely cool jesus-beard.. credits for that! you may see that hairy thing all around finland, since kotiteollisuus is touring right now. see the tour dates from www.dexviihde.fi

ramones tribute

"snails of finland & jari-pekka laitio-ramone" got their ramones-cover "slug" to two international ramones tribute albums.

the ramones is often considered as the inventor of punk and their influence to other groups is undeniable. the ramones played several times in finland between -77 and -94. their concert in provinssirock was even aired on television in -88. the ramones split up 1996.

the other release with the finnish "slug" is of german origin, masterminded by oliver alexander, who also was the manager of "leningrad cowboys". "all good cretins go to heaven - a tribute to the ramones" came to shops 21.3.2005.

mötley crüe's world-tour starts from helsinki on the 7th of june this year. the american hard-rock band hasn't been playing together for six years, but now the very original group is again gathered.

tommy lee, nikki sixx, vince neil and mick mars go first to helsinki and then to turku with three warm-up bands: 'thunderstone' and 'private line' from finland.. and also the super-popular swdish metal group 'in flames'.

working horse of helsinki-heavy: 'darcane' is no more. almost the same group is now called 'mind a stray' and they just released a new album.

the old vocalist of the group - tommy dee - must now settle for just the guitar, as the group has a new singer: sami "texas" ilvonen. sami is of course the "heavy idol" of finland, winning the "do you want to be a rock-star?"-competition.

taco bell loses the fight

tom morello from 'audioslave' and serj tankian from 'system of a down', both politically active musicians, put-up a non-profit organization "axis of justice" a few years ago with the sole purpose of fighting injustice.

axis of justice has recently been celebrating a victory in a battle aginst the unjust treatment of the farm workers from immokalee, florida. 'taco bell' was the evil of the story, attacking the ordinary men.

for more than four years the workers had boycotted taco bell, the major purchaser of their produce, in response the unacceptable working conditions and treatment they have had to endure as workers in these sweatshops. eventually taco bell had to give up, they agreed to various terms to benefit farm workers.

morello spoke passionately on the victory:

"today the immokalee farm workers struck a blow for dignity and human rights in the workplace and received the long overdue raise they have been fighting for... this is a major victory for the workers and demonstrates that by standing up and standing together, we can overturn any injustice. by standing up and standing together, we can change the world."

as ozzy osbourne releases new 4cd box "prince of darkness", a party is thown in 'night life rock' (helsinginkatu 25) 23.3.05 starting from 19.00.

the cd set has 35 old and 15 previously unreleased songs as well as a book, rare pictures and of course comments of the songs by the granfather of rock himself.

a group that has been together already for ten years - myon - finally got a record deal from a major company. the british label 'escape music' took the band from northern finland to their team and will publish their album at least in japan and in europe on its entirenity.

rob zombie, the ex-head of white zombie will release a film sometime this year. two years after his directing debut "house of 1000 corpses", robs new horror-western will be called "the devil's rejects".

as well as his horror project, zombie is also working on his first animated film based on his own comic book character "el superbeasto". he is aiming the film for an adult audience, and believes it will warrant an "r" rating.

remember when finnish heavy-metallists organized a concert couple of months ago for dimebag darrell, the pantera guitarist who was shot while playing on stage?

(unlike most of the rock-stars, he was shot dead)

apparently the consert on makasiinit really was a genuine good deed, 'cause the bands as well as the the crew working for the event are now donating all the income of the concert to the finnish red cross.
meaning, everyone there was working for free!

an event for giving out the donation is held in "night life - rock" (helsinginkatu 25) on 17.03, the doors open at 19.00. at that night, there is also a rare chance to see a video from the concert from makasiinit, a video whitch will not be sold or aired anywhere else, ever. or so they claim.

maybe now they will keep the profits?

the band was touring at the time of the awards, but the leading member of the band, ivar bjørnson commented the winning: "it felt extremely good to get the recognition from the mainstream music circus and to finally finish first for a change."

guitarist of static-x seems to have a thing for younger women.

in february he paid 100,000$ bail to be realeased after being caught sleeping with an underaged girl in a car. few weeks ago he was charged with committing a lewd act with a child. and now the same man has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, child endangerment and kidnapping.

the latest occurrence happened in new jersey last weekend. 39 year old tripp einsten allegedly met the 14 year old girl on the internet and drove to new jersey to meet her. he is alleged to have had sex with her in his truck.

i went to check the corner bar's (hietaniemenkatu 2, helsinki) heavy-karaoke and i must say it was great.

one might think that what you get is hairy and disturbingly drunken men roaring to the mic, but instead i saw surprisingly skillful singers getting on the stage, one after another. Unfortunately the song selection didn't (at least yet) have anythig overtaking, though the good old "hero-heavy" classics, - such as 'dio' or 'iron maiden', did their job.

after a hard weekend of celebration, sunday night is a fabulous time to let go of all that tension.
why not to go and sing a few tunes.
